About The Event

???????SFS Guwahati observed World Environment Day on 5th June 2026 with meaningful celebrations across both the SFS and Mermier Blocks, reaffirming the institution's commitment to environmental awareness and sustainable living. Despite the ongoing examinations, students and staff came together to mark the occasion with enthusiasm and purpose.

The celebrations commenced simultaneously at 9:40 a.m. in both blocks with special assemblies conducted by students. At the SFS Block, the assembly was presented by Class X A, while at the Mermier Block, the programme was led by Class IV A. Through speeches, reflections, and presentations, students highlighted the significance of World Environment Day and emphasized the collective responsibility of protecting and preserving the environment.

Following the assembly at the Mermier Block, Fr. Sibin, Vice Principal, addressed the gathering. In his message, he encouraged students to develop environmentally responsible habits and reminded them that meaningful change begins with individual actions. The programme concluded at around 10:20 a.m.

At the SFS Block, the celebration was further enriched by the presence of Ms. Aasha Malviya, a nationally acclaimed cyclist, athlete, mountaineer, and advocate for environmental and social awareness, who attended the event as the Chief Guest. She was felicitated by the school and delivered an inspiring address, encouraging students to adopt sustainable lifestyles and become responsible custodians of the environment. Ms. Malviya is widely recognized for her remarkable cycling expeditions across India, through which she has promoted awareness on environmental conservation, women's empowerment, and social responsibility.

Addressing the gathering, Fr. Melvin, Principal of SFS Guwahati, spoke on the importance of environmental stewardship and the urgent need to adopt sustainable practices in everyday life. As a symbolic gesture of commitment to nature, he planted a sapling, reinforcing the message that every effort, however small, contributes to the well-being of the planet.

The programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, leaving students and staff inspired to become active custodians of the environment. The observance of World Environment Day served as a timely reminder that caring for nature is not merely a responsibility but a shared commitment towards securing a better future for generations to come.
